Ballet Evolved

Royal Opera House in London, England has created a series of 15 educational dance videos called Ballet Evolved. The series is hosted by former Ballet Mistriss Ursula Hageli and feature demonstrations by dancers from The Royal Ballet.

We’ve chosen a few favorites to feature! Check out the rest of the videos HERE.

Time-traveling dancers dance side-by-side to demonstrate the differences between ballet classes now and when the art originated, covering dress, exercises, and even how much turn-out to use.

This video covers the development of pointe work in ballet, where the dancers move on the tips of their toes – from Marie Taglioni’s experiments in the 1830s, through developments by Italian and Russian dancers through to the famed pointe work of Russian Classical ballet.
